It seems everywhere I go everything is so old and country looking, but I don’t necessarily want really clean IKEA furniture either. I am looking something more contemporary, you know, urban-style furniture.
Anyone have any suggestions???
I need to furnish an apartment (I already have a bedroom set and sofa set… didn’t get those here in NC). So, I’m looking for wall art, a quality dining table, rugs, console table, a couple of bookcases, a tv stand, a coffee table…

Bedroom decorating help!?

i’m 15 and i have very old fashioned light pine furniture. it was very expensive and i am not allowed to paint, or get rid of it. however, i am redoing my room and would like a kind of contemporary feel (sort of mod). how can i accomplish this with my existing furniture? also, i am painting the walls white, except for one, with will be black with song lyrics painted on it. my bedding will be black with 6 large white flowers. i think my accent color will probably be red. i wanted to put a hanging bubble chair in the corner of the room, but was unable to find one under 200 dollars, so i think i might put a small armchair in the corner instead. any colors, lighting ideas, seating ideas, or curtain ideas would be appreciated. (i do not have a large room, and in the room i have a twin bed, a dresser which doubles as a vanity, another dresser, a bookcase, another dresser, a large desk, 2 windows and a smallish closet. all of my furniture peices are fairly bulky and tall.)
my furniture has a small leaf and flower decal on each one. its small, but enough to make the furniture look very old fashioned. its also very girly, and i want to stray away from that.

Ideas for a music room?????

I really LOVE to play the piano and i spend a lot of time doing just that. But, my music room is very boring and plain. All that’s in there is 2 creme colored chairs, an oak colored upright piano, and a little bookcase with a little door on it to hold my music. It is a small room and has no doors (it’s open). I love the look of the Biltmore Estate (although that is WAY to expensive for me too achieve that look and i would take it a little more modernized) but I don’t know how else to describe that style. Here is a picture, which is not a music room, of design that I like. Just PLEASE nothing modern or contemporary! I hate that…..sorry to any of you that like it. It’s just MY personal opinion. Oh, and nothing too expensive either….just can’t do that yet.

How can I stylishly store DVDs in my living room?

My style is contemporary….I prefer clean lines. My husband has a movie collection consisting of over 300 dvds and growing. We have a fairly small living room, about 10×13, with a couch, chair, ottoman….the tv is mounted on the wall and the media equipment is in a console below it.
I’m looking for creative, stylish way to store these DVDs. Right now we have them is a six shelf bookcase, but it’s not big enough and I would prefer not to actually see all these movies. It doesn’t really coordinate with the peaceful, serene look I’m going for.
I’ve searched the web for ideas with no luck, can you help?

Help with decorating living room?

O.K. I have a huge problem with decorating my living room. It is about 16X20 and has 18 ft ceilings. The focal point wall has a bookcase/TV that is 10ft long. Above the bookcase is two large pieces of art that my kids created with a local artist (4X6 each). The wall to the left (of the bookcase) is a large 12ft window that is 2 stories high and arched at the top. The wall to the right is about 12ft because it has the staircase coming off of it. There is an "overlook" balcony above the living room. The walls are a tan color. The couch is olive and the overstuffed chair is plaid. The artwork ties all colors together. The problem is that all the walls are so high and I definitely lack with accessorizing! I want a clean/contemporary look and it seems to be too casual. Any ideas?

What color paint would look best with dark brown furniture in a home office?

We recently bought a home with "unique" taste. I am looking to renovate a bedroom that will become our home office. It used to be an 8 year old’s bedroom with aqua blue walls and a dolphin border.
I am looking for a traditional/contemporary look- crown molding, big dark brown leather chair with ottoman, bookcase, and dark colored desk. There will be a lot of dark wood and dark leather in the room and I would like to pull up the carpet and lay very dark, thick wood flooring. Other than a tasteful colorful rug, what recommendations would you make for wall color, trim/crown molding finish and accent pieces?

colour sceme for box room?

My box room is going to be a chill out room. Already bought a beige gloss swivel chair with dark brown leather. Need one lime green wall because of a icture I have. Thinking of dark wood flooring but unsure of the furniture colour. I need a tv unit, computer table, bookcase and cd shelf. Do I go dark wood or would this make the room look smaller? Wanted white gloss but would clash with chair? Can’t find beige gloss. I want it to look contemporary

Help Designers!! I just bought a Burgundy Leather Sofa and Love-seat?

The sofas have a contemporary design, and I love ‘em. But now I just realized how hard it is to design my living-room with that color.
What can I do?
I have modern dark-chocolate (almost black) furniture (coffee table, tv table, bookcase, shelves,etc.)
Do they match? how should I decorate my living-room?
Any suggestions?
I also have a futon I want to upholster… what color you recommend?

Ok, I live in a small apartment, and saw this at IKEA the other day, and thought this would give my living room a nice contemporary flare (and also solve a ton of my storage problems). Thing is, I can’t decide what color to get.
My sofa set is black leather, and my dinette set is cherry wood and glass. The rest of my apartment has white walls, and caramel carpet. What color do you think will work well with my home? I was thinking lighter because my other furniture is on the darker side. What do you think?
